Charles Desmond

Charles F. Desmond is the Chief Executive Officer of Inversant, the largest children’s
saving account initiative in Massachusetts. Inversant's mission is to ensure that through
parental engagement every low-to- moderate income family has the tools, resources, and
understanding they need to achieve their goals for higher education.  In 2008,
Governor Deval Patrick appointed Dr. Desmond to chair the Massachusetts Board of
Higher Education, a position he held until 2015. He received his EdD in Instructional
Leadership from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his Bachelor of
Science degree in Sociology from Northeastern University. He is the recipient of three
honorary doctorates. Dr. Desmond is a U.S. Army Veteran, and was the Silver and
Bronze stars.  He is active in a wide and varied range of civic and community
organizations.
